Fortunately my 4 year old Dell that I use exclusively for Windows will not support 11. And with tax time coming up, I don't need anything messing with that laptop.

I checked that folder on my windows 10 install. 2.5k empty folders taking up a whopping 8.6mb. How will I cope

Thanks for pointing this out. Your right, my Windows 11 does have a number of those folders.

Temporary Files – If your Temp and Prefetch folders are filling up, expect to see your OS perform increasingly slower. Windows 11 is configured by default to regularly clean & maintain these directories by default. However, you can take matters into your own hand by deleting the contents of the Temp and Prefetch folders.

Sharp drop in performance occurs when directories grow above 120. At 2000 folders the performance drops to 39% of that at 120.

50K temp folders is even worse. I wonder what having 100K or more of temp folders would do to performance.

BTW, I haven't used Windows in years. My grandson has a Win11 computer and complained about its sluggishness. In researching his problem I came across this topic. It seems this temp folder problem has been plaguing Win10 for years and carried over into Win11.

The folders were made between october last year and april this year. Doesn't look like it's creating files now, so perhaps it's already fixed. I'm not getting windows 11, I just have 10 for a few games I play. I'll probably remove it entirely next year and run games on a separate linux OS, depending on advances in the area.
