This is with Chromium browser, positioning the cursor with mouse click immediately after the ] character and then pressing Enter to position the cursor to the next line, from where I am typing this. Space bar works as expected. (This is 'Test 5')

So, at here, in 16.10 Yakkety (Virtual Machine) 64-bit, with both the Vivaldi and Chromium browsers (both in default configurations), I do not experience the issue you are reporting. While my experience isn't conclusive evidence, it does strongly suggest that something else that is installed on your systems is causing it.

I have perhaps a similar problem. When hit reply with quote the cursor edit bar is placed on the second line below the terminating quote box.
When I begin typing and reach between the 20th and 30th character (appears random) the insertion bar jumps to the beginning of the first blank line. I can no longer enter text at the end of the second line. So, I delete the second line and begin typing right below the terminating quote box and things are ok. I am using FireFox 50.0.2

The person is saying that it could be a buggy javascript code within vBulletin. Any possibility to debug javascript in vBulletin?

I just switched to Vivaldi and so far it is working great! None of the problems mentioned above.
