I have now found that the changes were not due to the updates, but were due to changes that I had made in system settings.

I believe that I have now found another bug in System Settings. If I go to System Settings > Display and Monitor > Compositor, there is a button "Enable compositor on startup". If this is selected, the Animation speed can only be set to either "Instant" or "Very slow". I could not set any speed in between.

With Compositor enabled, and the system is rebooted a number of times, launched applications stay on the screen after exit for over 5s. The behaviour is the same for "Scaling method" Crisp or Smooth.

With Compositor de-selected, all works well on the desktop. Once again I am very happy with the response and there is also no jitter on the screen before the desktop is written and when the shutdown screen is written.

I would like to know if anyone else can confirm this behaviour.

I can set the full range of options with composition enabled.

      Card = nvidia

My dialog looks like yours, except for the theme, and has the same settings. My Animation speed settings cannot be changed smoothly. Only from tick to tick, of which there seven.

Glad you have it working for an Nvidia card. My system reports that I have an AMD Palm. What I have done is remove the drivers xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-xorg-video-radeon which also removed xserver-xorg-video-all.

My system now works perfectly with Composite BUT it only lets me select "Instant" or "Very slow". It doesn't allow me to select any of the 5 steps between these extremes

Well, yes. It is not a truly 'any position' slider on any system. Just one that goes between 6 or 7 set points.

              Zesty upgrade

              Hi all,

I upgraded Kubuntu 16.10 to 17.04 via the terminal, the upgrade went well, the only real problem I have is with "Discover", it seems to be flaky and works when it wants to or works (when updating) very slow?.

Apart from the problem above, it is running fine on my mini laptop (Packard Bell Limited Edition. 3GB Ram and Intel GPU).

That's why most folks install Muon or Synaptic

I did the Zesty upgrade using the spiffy new upgrade app from Krunner and:

                      kdesudo "do-release-upgrade -m desktop -f DistUpgradeViewKDE

Everything went just fine until this popped:

                      cannot install kubuntu desktop

in terminal send send this bug report

                      Ubuntu-bugubuntu-release-upgrade-core
The desktop was still there as I was working but I figured that if I shut down it would all over but the crying so I installed xfce desktop.

UNfortunately xfce did NOT appear as a different desktop at login all I got was the white blinking cursor of death (hereinafter known as : WBCOD lol ).

So, since I have a stack of hard drives and usbs with OS's on them I downloaded Zesty Zaphod Beeblebrox and installed it.

However, then after it updated and did all the normal stuff, with the wired connexion, now the wired connexion is gone.

                      lol

mmm ... a rash of disappearing wired connections.
                        Is a pattern developing?

well this just gets weirder and weirder.

I did the whole unplug, reboot, etc.

The following has happened THREE times.

When I reboot, Kwallet ( I detest that thing ) asks for a password. fine do that.

But then the wifi is sitting there spinning and asks for the wifi password.

                            Spins..

A few seconds asks for the password, I enter it again,

                            spins

                            repeat, repeat, repeat

When I right click the wifi symbol, spinning and double click the wifi then it activates.

                            hmmm

Kubu HAS had problems with wifi before...hmmmm

but to have problems with wifi AND wired...hmmmm

I experienced that, which is why I disabled kwallet.
