BTW, Woody, IF Clinton is elected president, and I suspect that she will, the price of ammo will go through the roof. You have 5 weeks to buy a sufficient stockpile. If you have less than a 5,000 rounds you are an amateur. 10,000 rounds will keep you satisfied for a year or two, but to be really ready perhaps more than 50,000 rounds.
Just joking.
An interesting look at the stopping power of bullets is here. And, a very informative video about comparative injuries from handgun and rifles is here. Basically, rifles are MUCH more lethal than handguns, as you would suspect. Basically, to be lethal, a handgun bullet has to hit the brain or brain stem, heart or major artery or vein because all they do is make a hole and cause bleeding. .22LR bullets can kill at over 300 yards if one of those locations are hit. 9mm, .40 or .45 caliber bullets just make holes with twice the diameter. Many a person has been hit by a 9mm and raised a lot of trouble before they got tired and sat down. A lot of people have been shot by handguns and didn't even realize it until they noticed blood on their clothes. Others have been hit by a 9mm and other calibers and dropped dead on the spot because a critical area was hit. As you know doubt know, neither handguns or rifle bullets hit with enough force to lift a person off their feet, much less blow them backwards, despite what Hollywood movies show.
Rifle bullets, especially high velocity ones, deliver so much energy that the damage goes far beyond the diameter of the bullet hole. Hydrostatic shock waves spread out from the wound channel for several centimeters, and fragmentation makes it worse.
Just joking.
