    "Crypto won't save you either"

Great stuff but he talks way too fast. I had to rewind some parts. So let's all stop using and buying software/hardware that has Dual_EC_DRBG in it at all. Forget if it can be turned off, it shouldn't be in there at all. I still say encrypt everything you can. It is good for the economy. The 3 letter agencies will have to spend more and more to get smaller and smaller returns.

I believe the main message was that crypto doesn't work because most hackers bypass it altogether and get at your data anyway. He recounts all the crypto techniques and tells what measures or holes were used to bypass them.

And so it goes, the old adage remains true: "Locks are designed to keep honest people honest", meaning dishonest people will always find ways around your locks if they can't go through them.

Another oldie but good one on the security front.

Security will always be attacked at the weakest link. We just need to keep identifying and fixing in an arms race type scenario.

This is well, lol, waay tangential, but it was an interesting article, basically saying that providing "security" on this end or that end is a losing proposition and that the security should be "between" things.

So.....even though the discussion is about coffee makers and cars, actually they have "a piece of software" that can be hacked and e-mail, folders on a desktop, etc. are "pieces of software that can be hacked".

interesting, way tangential, or just out in left field! but interesting.
