I read that kinda quickly, but who-in-the-hə!! would run linux on top of windows? What a dumb choice
Seriously though, maybe it will convert some users to pure linux - once they see that linux is the solid backbone. Millions of people use linux (a derivative) everyday and have no idea that they are.
There used to be a method of installing a distro as a file on Windows using wubi and boot into it in a "dual boot" style. I guess it is still around. You could not switch back and forth between them without rebooting. I tried it once for grins and giggles. Somehow, the Linux file got corrupted. I went back to real dual booting.
I don't see what is in this for Canonical. Every corporation MS "partnered" with got the royal shaft. It reminds me of when SCO made their "deal" with Ballmer and converted RH servers to SUSE servers, none of which were allowed to act as Master Browsers. So, they could be disconnected at any time, which is what happened to most (all?) of them. I think the SBDFL is grasping at straws if he thinks he can make money with MS.

Really I don't understand the impetus for this. Doesn't CYGWIN fairly much extend BASH and other items to Windows? I use it @ work with no issues and really see no need for some glorified Ubuntu mesh.
