Something appeared on the net which finally says to me that I could "use" a Raspberry Pi.
That something is a Western Digital hard drive for the dingus.
http://arstechnica.co.uk/gadgets/201...ry-pi-pidrive/
This combined with............a Kubuntu Rolling Release!!! in KDE Neon!!
In other words............... when it is installed, the hard part............it is..........installed! And does not have to be RE-installed every release!
Now the "downside" is that one cannot "run the OS" from the external hard drive, it has to be on the Pi dingus. So there are specific things that have to be done and there may be PARTICULAR things for Kubuntu to get it to run smoothly and also ...UPDATE...here is an initial post on installing Kubuntu on the dingus.
It LOOKS simple but I think that it really does, probably need a very specific "hand holding" how to for us NON-CLI people!
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comme..._raspberry_pi/
BUT.... once a rolling release is installed on the dingus it would just "roll along" for the foreseeable future and DATA is put on the external hard drive!! lol
So how about a "remote" "Group Project" ?
No..........there will be no grading of the assignment! lol
It might be that there are folks who are "frugal"( pun about the OS INTENDED!! ) lol or those who "want more!" as Oliver said in the musical.
There has been a situation of putting several of the dinguses together for a "super computer" which, apparently, requires a lot of Pythony stuff.
https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/pi...supercomputer/
One big advantage of the thing for "some folks" might want to use it with a HDMI television in the family room. (clutter reduction, conversation piece during half time with the Bros. ! )
https://www.raspberrypi.org/document...-connection.md
So......
some possible benefits of doing the group project.
a) A lot of people have been interested in Pi but there were "concerns" and I think that the advent of the external drive may address those for some/many people.
b) Installing Kubuntu is not "that big of a deal" from the below linky but I'm sure that there are a LOT OF HIDDEN problems...which maybe Blue Systems could chime in upon.
same link as above for the install.
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comme..._raspberry_pi/
c) it would be a "bonding thing" for the group of Kubuntu users.
d) It "might" attract the attention of NEW users to Kubuntu.
So.........just a thought...
of little worth!
Any comments appreciated!
