Yesterday I installed KDE neon on my Laptop which has an external display connected. I like it very much.

The only drawback is when I Shut down. There is about a 8s pause with a black screen followed by a rewrite of my desktop for about the same time after which the blue screen with the Plasma 5.6 logo appears and then it Shuts down. This odd Shut down behaviour does not occur on my other desktop with KDE neon and no external monitor.

Any ideas on how to fix this odd behaviour.

            Edit:

This behaviour was repeatable for over 6 shut downs and then after I did this post it no longer occurred. I hate to admit that posting a problem on this forum automatically fixes it. It is still there and my impression is that it happens less often if I stay longer with the system up and I let the Shut down message stay for at least 10s. Looks like I must slow down after doing a post.

So , this afternoon I was sitting hear going through my 5 OS's doing updates on them all .

It's been a wile so all of them had kernel upgrades , and so "update-grub" gets ran ,,,,,,,a few times,,,,during the setup part of the operation .

Well now my Kubuntu-16.04 + neon is being reported by all the other OS's grub menus as KDE Neon Development Branch 16.04 ,,,,,,,neet.

Yup, "Developer Edition". I noticed that yesterday on my installation (after dist-upgrade). On mine though, it's unstable branches; I like living 'on the edge'.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

                    ,,,you bad boy .

I had to remove kubuntu-settings-desktop ,,,,,,,as neon-settings would eror out and kill the upgrade (unless -f install) ,,,,,,after removing kubuntu-settings-desktop and the neon-settings installing this was the result .

I also had to remove kubuntu-settings-desktop but before I did that I decided to sleep on it and the following morning I thought, what the heck, and did it and got what you showed. I am glad that I am not the only one who had this problem as I had thought that it was of my own making.

Unfortunately, I think that I am still suffering from Right Handed Developers, LOL. Every time I start my system I get the default panel on the external display (which is on my LEFT) even though I closed down with it on my primary display. Also, my side panel on my primary display is always visible and not responding to panel visibility settings.

Looks like I will have to patiently wait for this feature to be fixed.

Thanks for your support on this issue. This bug has been reported and I have added my comments to it. There are many other different experiences that have been reported, but I think some of these have been corrected except for what I complained about.

I've been going back through the current thread to answer this question, but haven't found what I'm looking for. What's best practice for installing the NEON repository in a Kubuntu installation? I currently have the following:

                            http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2318147

                            And this:

                            http://gamblisfx.com/meet-kde-neon-on-ubuntu-15-10/

And if there were instructions here:

                            http://neon.kde.org/download

They seem to have been removed (since they're discouraging anything but fresh installs).

Can anyone, for me and for future readers, post the method that has worked for them?

If you want to ensure you are running a pure KDE neon, go to http://neon.kde.org/download and choose which one you want: User Edition or Developer Edition. Both are Live Images.

The earlier instructions were for adding the KDE neon 'guts' onto an existing Kubuntu 15.10 installation. As they now have the Live Editions, that method isn't applicable now.

Thanks, but I'm not feeling the need to experience "pure" KDE neon. A NEON/Kubuntu mut would be fine for me. :-)
