    Thank you

Not sure if this the correct place but I just wanted to thank SteveRiley and Qqmike for their invaluable information on this site regarding EUFI.
I had completely revamped my box with up-to-date kit including Asus Z170 motherboard and an Intel i5 6600K cpu (skylake). As this is the first time I had EUFI system I did get into a bit of a pickle to say the least. After reading through the info provided by these two gentlemen and not forgetting Rod Smith I now have a perfect boot system using rEFind. I find it a lot easier than if first looked to set up. Once again a big thanks guys.

    Cheers

Well, since your nice compliment is very sociable, I'd say Social/Casual Talk is the right place . Thanks for the compliment, and you are certainly welcome. And you are right about something: using UEFI is not so difficult. In some ways, it is easier than the older MBR/GRUB ways. Of course, a lot depends on how your specific computer maker (or motherboard manufacturer) implemented the 'recommended' UEFI firmware specs. I have found ASUS motherboards to be very accommodating.

Rod Smith got us all started on UEFI and continues to be the guru:

Steve Riley first pointed us to the Rod Smith web site.

For anyone looking for places to make Linux-related donations, of course try us here at Kubuntu forums first (starting at just $12), and then give some to the Rod Smith web pages (starting at $5).

Just an fyi, and for others, an updated list of my UEFI and related topics is at the very front of this GRUB2 how-to:

Great to hear this, I'm considering a H170 build (the season imposed it's delays, south of the equator they're long and slow, ideally anyway).

Only issue I had is with any distro that has kernel less than 4.2 such as mint not recognising my on board sound hardware. Upgrade to kernel 4.2 problem solved. I also understand kernel 4.3 onwards has better recognition of skylake cpu's. What precisely I have yet to investigate.
