    So i read Dedoimedo review and he blasted latest Kubuntu 15.10 from the sky.

    when i tried it i didn't have that much time to be able review it. i was more concerned in finding out how fast it would work on my PC and what the performance would be like. But this guy found plenty wrong with this latest version.

    so what i was wondering have the issues he menitoned been fixed? will they be present in 16.04? how come many things didnt' work in 15.10 that do work well in 14.04? ok new plasma but we can't blame samba not working on plasma can we?

    are there more favourable reviews that went more indepth testing what the usual desktop user needs and confirming it works?

    One mans experience does not a standard bearer make.

    Just because he had issues, doesn't mean everyone will have issues. The 'rule of thumb' is to try it before installing; i.e., burn a LiveDVD/USB and test it for yourself.
    Windows no longer obstructs my view.

      well live USB worked ok in my case but i didnt' test samba and such i do remember having issues with 12.04 & samba, but not with 14.04. i don't have ubuntu phone and such to test connection. i will try and find more reviews as i am interested where Kubutnu stands now. i sure hope i can keep it next year. i plan to upgarde sometime in september after the .1 release.

        It,,,(Kubuntu-15.10) works well for me and my use .

        I dont do samba ,,, only linux boxes @hear , on the rare occasion I knead to connect to one of them I just use SSH .

        that is Dolphin>Network>Add network folder>secure shell>and fill in the info ,,,save and connect ,,, now I have an sftp connection to the desktop(Kubuntu-14.04) in Dolphin on the laptop(Kubuntu-15.10).

        their are things different/missing from 15.10 than 14.04 ,,,,but I’m not having any major issues with it .

        I do have Ubuntu-14.04 , Kubuntu-14.04 , Debian-8-KDE , and Netrunner-15 on this lappy as well though ,,,,,,,

          Wow. That review was harsh. Still on 15.04. My only OS. No issues. Lovin it. Guess I'll hang back a while longer.

            It's a sloppy, hip shooting review with misleading statements. For example: he cites battery life as being 3.5 hours when his supporting snapshot shows that the given hours is 70% of the battery life.

            For him, his ability and desires, AND the specific hardware he is testing on, Kubuntu 15.10 is obviously not his cup of tea. But the conclusion that it won't work for anyone else is just another example of his over-reaching "logic".

            The REAL question is "Will Wily Werewolf work for YOU?" The only way to answer that question is to install it on YOUR hardware and see if it satisfies YOUR needs and conditions. An aside: IMHO the best way to do that is to back up your important data, download the appropriate ISO file, checksum it, burn it to a USB stick or DVD, checksum that device, and if everything checks out OK the boot from it and give it its own partition or, like I do, the entire disk. Testing it as a guest OS isn't likely to give you full features and benefits, unless you are comfortable with what a guest OS environment delivers to you.

              Hey Dedo, you hear that?! Well, I have also noticed a slip or two in his quality control. Maybe that comes with his success doing and expanding the website. The detail-quality was top-notch in the old days when I used his how-to on dual-booting XP with (K)Ubuntu 6.04, my first try with Linux and with dual-booting. He has visited us here in the past; maybe he'll see the feedback (I'll not go point it out to him, though; but if you do, I know he'd be open to it and to re-considering his review).

                well i think he is testing what a person switching from windows would use. as well as some general things - like once would expect a flawless experience with Ubuntu phone and Ubuntu derivative. I have a very old WinXP PC (single core but uprgaded ram to 4Gb and GPU is not bad at all) - it worked well for me there. but i haven't tested any games or Samba. Then we have slightly less odl but with old components Kubuntu 14.04 which after this time works really well (some hickups onthe start). then i have a 3 year old netbook with dualboot between Win 7 Starter and Kubutnu 14.04 64bit. i am not really getting optimal thing on that PC. things that used to work well in previous edition do not work well anymore. this is the one i also plan to test the 15.10 on and later 16.04 before installing it ofcourse.

                my point is i don't think the things tested in review are of little importance. i am glad to hear other's experience was good. i didn't check the hardware this review was based on but if it was linux certified PC it would be a dissapointing perfomance. anyway i read the reviews with a grain of salt. i was just struck by this one since Kubuntu usually fared well. as well as some OpenSUSE versions. just like a user would expect them to.

                i think i will let 15.10 go live on the netbook. see what comes out in terms of battery life etc.

                @ vinnywright - thank for the SSH in dolphin tip. might come in handy. server version of Ubutnu is just awesome and works way better than Debian Stable did.

                  This is how I test new distros. First run through install on virtualbox to see how it works, then install to its own partition.
                  However, before I do that, I run clonezilla and make an image of main OS harddrive. Have a working install of Win7 (for games) and Backbox (aka ubuntu 14.04 with pentest tools). Don't want to lose them.. If all goes to pieces, restore clonezilla image and i am back in business in less than 20 minutes. Takes about 30 to make image

                        As Plasma, Frameworks, and Applications are all updated, I'd say most things desktop related are better.

                          Sounds good. Is there anything that breaks (and can't easily be fixed) upgrading from 15.04 to 15.10.

                              i am not sure if they resolved it yet, but AMD GPU drivers compilation is an issue (upstream i believe). open source ones work ok.
