Kubuntu has a lot of advantages, even if it changes its name, it's going to be there. You can buy computers (e.g. from ZaReason) with Kubuntu preinstalled, there are a lot of users and experience brought by civil services (*)(**)(***), it has technical support (****) when a company/government needs to pay an expert, it has paying sponsors (Blue Systems), etc.

I had the same thought: a lot of people/enterprises using Kubuntu. But, Ganton, you've expressed it much better, with examples and links.

So Kubuntu profits from having *buntu as part of its name, and without *buntu in name it will no longer be Kubuntu. Besides it is also a matter of using Canonical's servers, launchpad PPA, etc.
The only alternative is to become the brand new distribution but it doesn't make much sense considering existence of Mint KDE and Netrunner. It would also mean to loose all that have been achieved as Kubuntu.

This joint statement is all about it - both parties profit from cooperation (actually Kubuntu profits more, Canonical only profit seems to be pretending it is still about community, not only about customers), so KC decided to forget important question Johnatan raised and go on as if nothing has happened, which for me is very surprising after they reallected Johnatan and after #ISupportJonathan campain.

Looks like Jonathan stepping down from KC was the price paid for Kubuntu.

Perhaps it is good for Kubuntu - only the time will show (I'm not so sure) - but in my opinion it is a very bad way of solving problems. Basically they didn't solve it, they put it away pretending it didn't exist (although this joint "politically correct" statement claims something else).

By the way, this statement "The Kubuntu team are committed to releasing 15.10 in October. Updates, bug fixes and future releases are currently uncertain. " is weird to me. What's the point of making it and abandon after release. Before writing such things KC and Jonathan should think about decisions first and only then make announcements.

Writing it now only makes us - users confused.

I still feel as though people are abandoning ship much too readily. It's panic football. It will only help its demise. It's like a bank run (run on the bank), don't do it. The end is nowhere near, don't go hastening it. Relax, stay calm. You don't need this panic and yes, this is panic.

I think people are panicking, or venting a need to be dramatic. Let's not act like crisis junkies here

Assume Kubuntu will survive. That assumption is as easy to make as any other. As has been pointed out, there's no conclusive facts yet, it's all speculation. Best to remain loyal, hang in. And without our steady regulars, what is this place, anyway? I think you do have a responsibility here.

If one seeks the realization of a criterion to only place oneself in situations/activities that are congruent with a specific brand of purist principles and personal philosophy, well, good luck with that life goal! This world we live is just isn't quite yet working like that. If you have any principles at all, you are violating them every day just by participating in this society, by riding along, by hanging your survival objective with the rest of us and them, by generating and consuming the resources you need to survive.

i have it running on two systems the other two systems, my daughters, are imacs

debian has been going long enough to be classed as long term
as of assumption , i am ex military, have found it to be the mother of most mistakes

i just want systems that my wife and myself use to have long term support. that is all ...

You yourself are part of the answer to that question. It cannot be answered without your part as well. You determine its future, its outcome. There is no answer that is independent of you and your cherishment or lack thereof.

So the question cannot be answered without including your subject. So, what do you want the outcome to be? Do you want Kubuntu to continue? Then do it.
