History of Veterans Day [United States of America]

Today is Veterans Day in the United States. To all Veterans; past, present, and future, I stand in recognition of your service and sacrifices, and from my heart, I say "Thank you."

Today is known as remembrance day here in the UK when we as a nation remember all of the fallen from World War 1 and later wars and conflicts. We also hold remembrance services on the Sunday nearest to 11 November.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    We will remember them.

Several years ago I was purchasing a new refrigerate. The clerk asked to see my ID for a $900+ credit card charge. The clerk saw my veterans ID card next to my ID and said "OH, you are a veteran. Thank you for your service and as a veteran you get a 10% discount. Some retailers do give us discounts. Doesn't hurt to ask. Some of us have physical or mental damage, so Any benefit helps.

      Thank you Lowe's.
