Tablets--preferences?

Any preferences on tablets (tablets, not cell phones per se)?

Size? (7", 8",10")
Brand? (Apple, Android--ASUS, Google, etc., Microsoft)
For reading comfort, say sitting in bed or in a chair, reading from a browser?
Bear in mind: Nexus has a new Nexus 9 coming Nov 3rd, if you've been following this.
Opinions, rants, raves?

Observation: Seems there's quite a price spread between, say, decent 7" tablets ($200: Nexus 7, ASUS MeMo Pad) and good 8" tablets ($400, generally). Seems most people prefer 8" for reading comfort; 10" seems too large for many people.

It's actually not too bad for a bargain bin tablet. Bought it around last black friday ($90 on sale) and it's served me well for reading in bed and watching netflix and youtube. That's the only real use I have for a tablet

The build quality is so-so, it has a flimsy plastic case and the screen is not the best - kind of lousy viewing angles. But for $100 it's gives a pretty good bang for the buck. Really cloud not see spending more for a Nexus, Samsung, etc since this cheapo one suits my needs.

I was hoping the Nexus 9 would be similarly positioned (as the Nexus 7), only larger in size. But the Nexus 9 is positioned at the upper end.

from ipad 1 i went to Sony android tablet,
that only lasted 2 months, there was a few things i really didnt like
1. battery life - from a brand new unit this was crap.
2. wifi would turn itself off on stand by - i know this is to preserve battery life and can be toggled, but ipad works jsut find without such ****ty toggles.
3. screen resolution
4. found the whole android layout clunky with so many unnecessary clicking about.

now using an ipad 3 with retina display. its simple and intuitive and more importantly has some apps i use that android didnt - like JJJ radio for anyone in Australia.

Samsung note 10.1 here. Been a great device. No complaints and the "pen" is great to have!

The Nexus 7 seemed to come out on top of many comparison reviews with Galaxy, the Apple products holding #1 spot (so it seems). Look at this interesting article:

I don't really have any problems reading on the 7". I read kindle books and browse the web on it.

Screen quality makes a real difference if you plan on using it for reading and browsing.

I had a first generation Nexus 7 and upgraded it to the 2013 model because I wanted mobile internet capabilities (i.e. I didn't do it for the screen).

However, once I got it I realised that the screen is incredible and probably the best feature - you get the same number of pixels in as many larger tablets, and it still fits in one hand easily. I use it one-handed all the time, which I don't think would work very well with a 9 or 10" tablet.

Obviously the Nexus devices are nice if you want to be able to easily root & unlock the bootloader.

So, sitting down in a chair, sitting up in bed reading articles off the browser, the 7" is big enough (older, eyesight issues, reading glasses), it's not too small/cramped?

The Nexus 7 will get the Lollipop upgrade. Question might be, will it still be produced, or just the shelves cleared of current inventories. No question the 7 comes out on-top in many critical reviews, and is priced right.

For security it is rooted and has XPrivacy installed that controls by disallowing any and all 'funny' behaviour apps seem to 'need'.

Google has really messed up by not including the ability to revoke specific permissions for apps in stock android. It wouldn't even have to be a default option, you could "hide" it in an "advanced options" menu and please pretty much everyone: people who are interested in learning how to use it properly would find it, people who don't care would never see it.

They could also nip one of the main reasons for flashing custom ROMs like CyanogenMod in the bud...

KConnect is great for KDE users.

I haven't tried it for about 6 months, I think I should probably give it another go. What do you use it for, and what has changed since the early days?
