    Wind map

    Just found this: http://earth.nullschool.net/jp/#curr...3.85,14.84,407

I thought it was pretty cool. Check out the typhoon hitting Japan right now.

Cool. And you can rotate the globe also.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

      And zoom in and out!

If you zoom out slightly on GoogleMaps it shows the current cloud patterns around the world. Zoom in too far and the clouds disappear.

        That's impressive!

On a related note, have you ever had a look at marinetraffic.com? It provides real time mapping of ships using AIS data (example for the English Channel below):

You can see where each ship is registered, where it is headed, speed, size etc. I used it to do a traffic survey for a project at university once, from the comfort of my own home. Beats travelling to Wales in the pouring rain!

While we're at it, FlightRadar24 is also pretty cool! Live air traffic. Click/zoom to explore.

              THAT is a COOL site!

And you can add filters! Look only for specific airlines using their ICAO designator codes. See List of airline codes

One could while away hours on this site.

              Crap!
              Your Flightradar24.com Session Has Timed-Out

In order to save data consumption Flightradar24 web page times out after 30 minutes.
Please reload the web page to get another 30 minutes.
or get a Flightradar24 Premium subscription and Flightradar24.com will not time-out again!
Had to be to good to be free.

Oh, you just have to reload the page for another 30-minutes. Okay, I can live with that.
