Politics in the UK is broken. We don’t even have the power as voters to sack MPs who don’t do their job properly - even if they go to prison, or fiddle their expenses.
But we’ve got a chance right now to make things better. The government is making decisions behind closed doors to announce new powers to ‘recall’ - or sack - MPs who don’t do their job properly. Good huh? But their definition of recall is a stitch-up.
It looks like their recall could put the power to sack naughty MPs in other MPs hands. But we could change that. Real recall puts the power in voters hands, so if enough voters wanted to hold a by-election to sack their MP in between elections, they could.
Today MPs from across all political parties have lined up to speak out against the governments plans. But we need to add to that pressure - and build the momentum on the government who are making their decision now.
