    Windows 9 - subscription?

I read an interesting article about the future of Windows, it's a rumour that Microsoft may allow its users to pay a subscription to install future versions of Windows. Tp possibly give the base system away for free but you have to subsribe for other packages/elements of the operating system.

There is a current story going around about a zero day vulnerability in all versions of IE from 6 to 11. The article said that "Microsoft’s full security advisory goes into more detail, explaining that the vulnerability affects every version of the browser from Internet Explorer 6 through 11..", and "most attacks are targeting IE9 through 11, which together account for more than 26 percent of the web browsers currently in use around the world. But when you add in IE versions 6 through 8, you’re talking about more like 56 percent."

56%. That is an amazing statistic. There was a time when Windows had a 95% market share. Either a large number of Windows users have switched to FireFox, or they have switched to another OS, or both. However, I don't believe that statistic. Just a couple years ago, in 2012, an analyst from Goldman Sachs wrote that "Microsoft went from 95% of the internet-connected market to 20% in an eight year span."

What ever percentage of market share Windows has, the zero day IE bug is going to drive more people away from Windows. Perception is 90% of reality and most people have begun to perceive that Microsoft can not keep its Windows closed.

It's frustrating that a good number of websites still exist that say they require Internet Explorer. One in particular that I have to use for reimbursements won't work with Firefox even with the browser user string changed to say Internet Explorer on Windows.
