    Goodbye Ubuntu One

It appears that Ubuntu One cloud storage and music shop will be closing.

    http://blog.canonical.com/2014/04/02...file-services/

As of today, it will no longer be possible to purchase storage or music from the Ubuntu One store. The Ubuntu One file services will not be included in the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04 LTS release, and the Ubuntu One apps in older versions of Ubuntu and in the Ubuntu, Google, and Apple stores will be updated appropriately. The current services will be unavailable from 1 June 2014; user content will remain available for download until 31 July, at which time it will be deleted.
If youve got stuff there, get it out before it disappears.

Downloading your files may already be problematic. I attempted to down load some files and the first one I tried gave me this message"
Could not download content from storage
EDIT: EVERY file I attempt to download fails with the same message.

EDIT2: I installed the UbuntuOne client and API from the repository. IT allows me to download my files. Logging in via FireFox and choosing the "download" link for specific files still fails.

Re. Wayland vs. Mir. Kubuntu is going to use Wayland, Ubuntu is going to use Mir. Therefore, we are changing bases.

Well that sucks - I just got some people to sign up not long ago for the additional 500MB per new client.

I thought you meant Debian vs Ubuntu!

Actually, you can put your sig image in your KFN Profile Albums and link to it.

OwnCloud is very cool. Now that my server is more powerful, I'm starting to really appreciate some of its features like the built in ODF editing, which is great for quick notes.

Still not happy. At least things download at the moment. One reason I hate the "Cloud". So, what is this OwnCloud? Must look into.

Not really. As far as I can tell, Kubuntu will still be based on Ubuntu, it will just be more difficult for our developers.

OwnCloud seems to be something useful but I assume it works best if one has a static IP and not a dynamic one?

Yeah, unless you're using dynamic DNS
