A NSA survelience van within WIFI range of my place!!!

My wifi connection was unusually slow so I used nm-tool. Look what I found!

Big Brother is closer than you think!
(Actually, I think it is someone spoofing NSA with a bogus wifi name, but it's funny anyway )

Funny! And ... inspiring! I have this paranoiac ex-cop neighbor -- but I doubt he has the smarts to scan his wifi signals.

Hey, how about "Invisible CIA drone"?

I caught my neighbor's teenage son trying to hack my wifi last year. Just for laughs, I changed my ssid to "FBI Surveillance Van".

I ran into that lots of times on the road. It's either been FBI surveillance or NSA, etc... I think it's just some who people don't want their wifi tampered with or tapped into, so they rename their home network to deter would be leechers.

Of course, I could be wrong...

          Interesting tales!

Dibl, I thinking of changing my wireless router name to your suggestion!

For about two years I named my access point Al Qaeda in the polder...
Maybe I should change to Neighbourhood Surveillance.

My friend at college once picked up a wifi called "CSI Detroit" but that couldn't be the case in Windsor, ON. lol

                  --edit--

If you are still lagging on your WiFi connection. Try finding a better channel. The Freq 2437 is in use by 6 others on that list. Freqs 2442 and 2447 are more isolated and will have less clutter.

Good point. I usually change to 1 or 11, because these have no overlap with 6.

Here's another story about NSA even hacking in to offline computers.

Funny that they call that "Latest Leak." The story is based on 7 year old documents that were released 3 years ago. Apparently, nobody cared much then.

Targets included the Chinese and Russian military as well as drug cartels, the newspaper claimed.
That seems implausible. The spy would have to be within radio range of the computer. It would mean that the NSA has "assets" inside those groups. Secondly, the Chinese and Russians no doubt scan for unknown radio transmissions within their facilities. Thirdly, even if NSA had that capability the fact that they seem blissfully unaware of the many events that have taken place over the years, or didn't react to them, suggests they don't have the capability. Why put "assets" at risk if they are not going to use the Intelligence.

The more I read about Edward Snowden the more I am thinking that he is simply a Walter Mitty character

I wouldn't make that comparison. Walter Mitty was clueless. I don't think Snowden did what he did blindly. He knew what the consequences might be, right up to being sanctioned. I suspect that he was scared to death when he did it. Personally, I consider him an American hero, compared to those Walter Mitty's manning the drones, the snooping video screens and microphones on buses, etc..., who KNOW what they are doing and are under the illusion they are working to further freedom, or are just in it for the money.
