The giving season? A Happy Holiday Challenge!

A proclamation: I, as a user of only Linux and Linux software, benefit daily from the labors (or labours for our friends across the pond) of many hard working souls. In this vein, I often purchase Linux software and publications to support these labors, I contribute financially to this forum, and contribute in other small but hopefully meaningful ways to the Linux ecosystem.

Today, for this first time, I also donated the Wikipedia for similar reasons. I often gather information (or occasionally mis-information ) and spend many enjoyable hours browsing reams of minutia and trivia hosted by this service.

I estimate I have saved literally thousands (maybe 10's of thousands) of dollars over the years in software and OS costs and received innumerable hours of enjoyment (and frustration) for a mere pittance compared to the value I have received. I also earn a decent paycheck in part because of my Linux experience.

Thus, in this season of giving, I put forth the following challenge:

I have donated or spent approximately $250 this year supporting the above causes. I challenge all of you who have benefited from my help and those who have helped me, laughed at my sad attempts at humor, rolled your eyes at my ignorance, argued with my opinions or simply ignored me all together (undoubtedly the largest group mentioned), to give either 10% or 1% of my total ( $25 or $2.50 for the math challenged among you) to any Linux, FOSS, or internet based information service of your choosing.

I know a great many of you contribute financially in the same way I do and I thank you for your contributions. For those who cannot afford to give, I trust you will someday when you can.

Happy Holidays everyone - regardless of your beliefs (or lack there of).

I "joined the game", was thinking about doing it after I read Snowhog's article... this thread reminded me. Thanks to you both!

Now I have a cheeky addition to my signature

I already contribute here, so I donated $5 to Wikipedia since I do use it almost everyday. Thanks for the suggestion.
