What version of the Kubuntu and the KDE version ?
Is the Homerun Kicker starting from konsole ?
(1) Konsole:

There should be a small launch button

If the Kicker is starting from the konsole (plasmoidviewer) but not from the panel button
What is in the /usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-applet-homerun-kicker.desktop ?
If the Kicker is not starting from the konsole (plasmoidviewer)

Found the difference' One is homerun launcher the other homerun kicker. Homerun launcher is in the standard repos as plasma-witdget-homerun. The cascading menu kicker is from ppa:blue-shell/homerun When installing the kicker from the ppa the other is removed.Linux because it works. No social or political motives in my decision to use it.

Didn't get a chance to try on system at work, but here on 12.10 with that Repo installed I don't see homerun kicker.
