I've had a bear of a time with 12.04 on mine and my wife’s systems. I could only get things to work right with 13.04. Possibly hardware related (Nvidia graphics). I plan to get my wife’s system to the 14.04 LTS and parking her there until the next LTS release after that (16.04). Personally, I like to "tinker 'till it breaks". I have an rsync script running every night to backup my ~/ to the server, so I tend to be a bit bold in my tinkering. I've taken SteveRiley's suggestion for "living-on-the-edge" and I've set my sources.list to /devel. Very, very surprisingly stable, tbh...
I do not personally use Kubuntu, but I'm the tech support for my daughter who does.

They're both custom built computers with dual core AMD processors and separate Nvidia graphics cards. It'd be a bit of a pain to find the names and model of the parts and chances are they've been discontinued anyways.
