Getting scam emails through Yahoo Mail

I have recently been getting quite a few scam emails to my Yahoo Mail account. You know the ones from widowed African leaders wanting my (financial) help to claim a lot of money sitting in bank accounts and reporting from a bank (not even my own bank) claiming that I have to log or else the service will be disabled.

I have had this email account for over 10 years and never received scam emails (spam yes but not scam). What the hell are Yahoo playing at? If this carries on I'll just shut my account down.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Yahoo! My Yahoo accounts were similarly plagued with spam. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Leave Yahoo. That company deserves to crash, burn and then go to the deepest level of hell.

I usually find that if you have given your 'webmail' to what appears to be an honourable site, it will be used for devious purposes, also if your email is 'out in the open', for example, posting in the comments on Distrowatch and giving your email, then there are dubious characters posing as employers on Workopolis, etc, gleaning peoples' info, it's a very shady world we live in now... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowy...Shadowy_Planet

Edit: @Nick, I find the spam filter in Yahoo webmail works, mark them as spam, but I check the spam folder anyway, just in case something slips past the filter that shouldn't.

I get a lot of crap via my yahoo email also, but as I use Thunderbird to read all of my emails accounts, I have set up filters that automatically delete most of them. It also allows me to keep my Yahoo address book empty so that the spammers cannot send out those blanket emails even if they crack my account. Yahoo email seems to be the most targeted by these scum.

just as a side comment I have not received spam directly on Yahoo, but it has been going to the spam filter.

however, gmail, on the g-mail site is getting some intermittent spam.

Also.....the college, gets some spam! those horrid "eddicationist" companies selling our e-mails! lol

but, actually, for me, the total amount of spam is very, very small.

                knockonWOODsmoke! lol

I used to get those all the time. Maybe a dozen or so a week. Once those types get your email address, its toast.

Very true, I have found this too, this is why I NEVER give my REAL (ISP based) email EVER! If a site says no webmails, then they don't get my traffic, simple as that.
