    Muon Software Reviews

I never put much faith in them. You know a 5 star review means nothing. Where do they get these from? Today I installed a game had a 5 star and only 1 review. I found out pretty quick that is sucked a$$ and I couldn't even play the game. So I promptly removed it. But it makes you think, why have a review/rating system in the first place. If the game or app is in the repository shouldn't it have been debugged, tested, and stamped with a gold seal?

Well that is just some food for thought. Happy 4th of July to you in the states!
I am heading out to the balcony to watch the Detroit display from my side of the river.

My guess is that the maker reviewed it himself and of course gave himself (or herself) five stars for effort. I kind of trust ratings that have a lot of reviews, but thats about it.

I can't prove it, but I'm guessing it borrows the ratings from Ubuntu software center. The only requirement to submit a review is a Ubuntu One account.

That is correct. Much like any user review on a commercial website, one can throw out the best and worst ones and focus on the middle, so only one review can be treated as no review.

Reviews are totally worthless unless you actually read them. I suppose if there are a 1000 reviews of something you might get some usable stats. I was shopping for something on Amazon the other day and the item had a single 1 star (worst possible) review. When I read it, the reviewer said he gave it 1 star because the instructions were written poorly. It was a mechanical timer. You pretty much turn the dial and watch your light go on or off - no other functions. No comments at all about the actual product. I might have taken off 1 star for sloppy instructions, but not a 1 star rating. Thanks for nothing

How would you rate the fireworks, Simon?

This year both cities Detroit/Windsor both chipped in on the display for a combo Canada Day/4th of July celebration it was a spectacular display with the barges on the river launching off the shells. We are on the 3rd floor so we get a pretty clear view. I can only imagine that the riverside Caesars Casino and Hotel was booming. I was hoping for more this week but it was only minor displays compared to that. Ever since they dropped the ban on fireworks in Michigan we have been seeing some big private shows on the rooftops across the river as well. Those seem to go on all month long. Some of my friends here have told me they go buy the Michigan fireworks over there and bring them in but I wouldn't want to pay the fines if they get caught. XD

My previous two employers kicked in some money to fund our boom-fest this year. I'm kind of surprised, really, because Amazon is astonishingly tight-fisted. They don't usually do anything philanthropic around town. What else can you expect from a company that brags about frugality as one of its "leadership principles."
