    Kubuntu sucks

    Overrated crap with major bugs!

I don't want the UTC time displayed... so why is it the only option all of a sudden?!?!? POS!

Would you like assistance in changing it to the proper time zone? It's a one minute fix.

Do you know any distro's that are bug free?

I generally find that ignoring posts with titles like this works best. 90 percent of the time the poster is looking to troll or just attract negative attention. The other ten end up posting another, saner post about the problem.

Of course I am not taking my own advice lol!

Any anti-Kubuntu or anti-KDE post on this forum is a rather pointless post and will of course achieve very little.

Oh there is nothing inherently wrong with it, even here, as long as it doesn't bleed over to other people's unrelated posts.

I don't generally ignore QQ'ers. Finally a post where I can help someone at the same time.

I think anyone who tries Kubuntu for the first time needs to realise that KDE is far more complex than other DEs with many options and settings that can be changed. If it doesn't work the way that you want it to then there's probably a setting that hasn't been found or changed. I've been using Kubuntu for almost two years now. I freely admit that I didn't feel comfortable with it at first and I'm still finding options that I didn't know existed.

Kubuntu and KDE for that matter, don't suck but a certain amount of patience and perseverance is required to get things set up to a user's liking. It's a shame that people come here and criticise rather than ask for help.

I'm used to it. Some people don't know how to ask for help other than to criticize. I'd be willing to blame their upbringing or their own personal life.

Working in IT, I encounter this type of user all the time and it's difficult to get past the tone of voice and negativity with a smile. I let them vent and they're usually willing to be helped. Some people take longer than others.

I guess the user is banned now. Oh well. Maybe he'll find a better fit with gnome. /grin.

The truth is that the person is an inexperienced user without the patience to figure it out. I had some of those moments when I first started using linux in the begining.

I was just at a friends home who is starting out with his first pc. A nice low end Dell with win8 and let me tell ya it took me longer to find the OS under the fluff then I care to admit. His issue was "No Internet". It showed as being connected to the wi-fi but... To verify the connectivity of his network I logged on with my Kubuntu laptop and it was connected as soon as I let it through the firewall.

Anyway to make a long story short he had been using the power button to shut it down because the shut down menu was hidden behind a screen after he would log off. Seriously lets complain about something as simple as a KDE time zone setting that is well documented and easily changed once you RTFM!

For fun I plugged my USB Kubuntu in to his laptop after looking to see if the UEFI could be switched off interestingly it was. Kubuntu loaded nicely but wouldn't detect the wi-fi didn't take the time to try and figure it out but it was cute when he asked me how much "one of those costs". I could only smile!

Me, too, Pauly, we all have. But, it is a poor craftsman who blames his tools.

That may be true, I guess I abandoned Linux in 2000 and didn't return for another 10 years because it seemed far too difficult to correctly edit config files just to get my video and sound working correctly. But these days there is so much help available through forums, IRC and mailing lists. And our good old friend Google can still come up with answers that might equally apply to other KDE based distributions. I like to remember that my problems are probably not new problems and that someone, somewhere at sometime will have experienced exactly the same issues.

Google is great at tracking down some of those elusive answers and on more than one occasion I have been directed to an old post on these very forums where the answer was sat here just waiting for me to find it.
