...Personally I would love to just download a TV show and watch it when I wanted to... not have to worry about making sure I recorded it on time, or that I could miss the beginning or end or even the entire thing if I get the timing wrong or the hdd fills up, or have to skip through the commercials... etc...

I do this with DVD's. I buy TV shows on DVD then watch them as an when I want to watch them - commercial free.

There are many problems with DVDs... for one they are a bad technology... take up lots of space and are very easily damaged. They are also expensive and not available for along time after the initial release of the series though I know that these are the fault of the media publishers. It is also a pain to organise then and find the one you want to watch if you don't... I like my media solution where I can just turn on the TV, browse through a list of all my shows and movies, even filter them by genre if I want a particular movie and see the cover and a short description of the movie/tv show of the ones I am interested in.
