All Americans have the right to secede, its called renouncing their citizenship and moving out of the US. If any of those 700,000+ want to do that, then be all means do it already. If they think the government will let a state secede, than they are downright batsh*t crazy. A good quote from the above article:
703,326 Americans have signed their names to the petitions — a substantial figure but still less than one percent of the country’s population
It is going to take a whole lot more than that to get any real action achieved.

That's fine by me. I have grown quite tired of this topic anyways, since my belief is this is a mole hill people are trying to make a mountain out of, but that is just my opinion. Time will tell where and how this story unfolds and I will leave it at that. I have no harding feelings towards anyone, live long and prosper!

You know I just thought of something that needs to be said! In Porter Rico the Porterrcans are voting to become, the 51st state and I wish them luck, if the do manage to become the 51st state, great! But in 5 years from then, if the decide that it was a bad idea and now wish break from the UNION, are you saying they should leave their homes because its now part of the United States? And how about them Hawaiians? If we want to spread democracy we should start at home. We do not live in a dictatorship as you suggest.

                    More info:

When your a member of the union of the United States you have the right to come and go as you please, that is what makes it a union.

I just signed for my state. Thanks for the link!

Yes, nothing may change, but maybe somehow there will be some discussion started and/or maybe the MSM will report on something...

OK, and so what if the Administration has my email addy... bring it on.

Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in!

I never wanted to imply this was dictatorship (far from it in my opinion), I was just stating if these people no longer want to be part of America they have a choice. If they decide to leave the Union (or the US) they cease to have the rights provided to Americans. I hope these people realize this, they can't have their cake and eat it too.

What makes this country great is we can have these conversations without fear of being hauled off to jail. My only point is I don't see the federal government just allowing a state to secede. Heck, even Texas' own governor says it isn't going to happen.

Also, I completely agree with you that "if we want to spread democracy we should start at home", same goes for fixing our government if we don't like it. It can't and won't be fixed from the top down.

This whole thing makes me really angry. Im betting that the same people who have signed the petitions are the ones constantly going on and on about freedom. Democracy is a major part of the freedom that they claim to love so much, yet when their candidate doesnt get elected, they cry and whine and want to make a new country where their leader and only their leader gets elected. This is nothing short of fascism.

S-R, Oh, yes, I got it, also! There's (at least) three obvious ways of reading that, and all three are funny.
