Ahh....Italy - the land of the religious extremists. ;-) I stand corrected! b.r Jonas
Heyyy! Easy there.
The unjust distribution of goods persists, creating a situation of social sin that cries out to Heaven and limits the possibilities of a fuller life for so many of our brothers. -- Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires (now Pope Francis)
It also briefly features their ideas for how the capitalist society of the time would eventually be replaced by socialism, and then eventually communism.
And yes we will have the usual responses that "liberalism is not communism" but liberalism is "progressivism" a "progress" beyond the previous capitalist/conservative way of doing things.

But the point of my post was multiplicity of parties not a side track onto conservative/liberal

Why are you grouping everything into two groups? This makes no sense. Communism is not Liberalism. Conservatism is not religion. Im getting sick of this nonsense woodsmoke.... Lets group everything into two groups.
From now on there are two colors: Orange and Green. What about blue you say? Its green. What about white? Its orange. Purple? Screw purple, it doesnt exist.
There are now also only two food groups. Fruits and meats. Grain is a fruit. Milk is a meat. Cookies are also a fruit.
There are now two computer OSs. Unix and Windows. Apple and Linux are now the same.
From now on, there are two types of music: rock and hip hop. What we used to call classical is now rock and gospel is hip hop. Folk is rock but traditional Asian music is hip hop.
Two types of automobiles: cars and planes. A train is a car and a helicopter is the same thing as a plane.
There are two government types: Democracy and Fascism. Monarchy is democracy by the way.
There two religions: Christianity and Hinduism. Islam and Judaism are the same as Christianity and Hinduism, Buddhism, Animism, and Witchcraft are Hinduism.
Now that all this is settled, lets have an educated discussion. I propose that the Democracy found in countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia has given rise to Christianity while Fascism, found for example in China, North Korea and Vietnam has led to widespread Hinduism. It is also interesting to note that most Christian nations favor the color green (Saudia Arabias flag is almost entirely green), while Hindu countries, China for example, favor orange (noting of course that Chinas flag is primarily orange). Discuss.
Good lord, what in the world do you teach or expose your students to, woodsmoke? I can't imagine that you dutifully keep this 'stuff' out of your classrooms. Not just the outrageous claims to shaky facts, but the process of thinking, reasoning, and principles of sound logic.

Communism is not Liberalism. Conservatism is not religion.
Please name me a "prominent" conservative, or a large conservative "group" that advocates that the peoples of the world should be communist.
Waiting, waiting....
Please name me a "prominent" Christian/Catholic/Jew , or a Christian/Catholic/Jew "group" that advocates that the peoples of the world should be communist.
Ummmm waiting.....waiting....
Now, yes, Jesus was probably what would be, today, labeled a "socialist". He said give everything up, donate it to the poor, and follow me.
Ok.....
So that leaves the "moderates" and the "liberals".........
We can agree, can we not, that the human population in the U.S. probably fits relatively well into a "bell curve"....the mere fact of the number of people in the population rather dictates a bell curve of orientation.
So....
Please name me a "prominent" moderate, or a large moderate "group" that advocates that the peoples of the world should be communist.
waiting, waiting, waiting....
So.....that leaves liberals and "liberalism".
Again... I repeat the question.
Please name me a "prominent" liberal, or a large liberal "group" that advocates that the peoples of the world should be communist.
not much of a wait there.....
I'll even provide one name....of many, many, many....

I await the huge listing of conservatives and moderates who advocate moving to socialism.
woodsmoke
Woodsmoke, this defies all logic.
First, communism is not socialism. Understand that. There is a massive difference.
Second, just because a few liberals advocate socialism does not mean that liberalism is socialism. This is the most illogical statement one can possibly make. Lets make some other examples.
Bill O'Reilly is a conservative and an obnoxious, nonsensical idiot so therefore, all conservatives are.
Some Muslims are terrorists therefore they all are.
The apple in my fridge is red. Therefore all apples are red.
And this does it for me on this thread. Im tired of wasting time arguing over complete nonsense with someone who doesnt listen and has no idea what is going on in the world.
The linux fora of the world are, overwhelmingly, nobody can argue with this, ...."liberal"...
Unfortunately, just as CONSERVATIVES want to FORGET anything that they have done wrong, or that ANY of them have done ANYthing wrong.....
It is the considered opinion of many CONSERVATIVES.......that the "liberals" just "will not admit of the possibility" that maybe......"liberalism" has done some things that are wrong.
So.....yet again......
The two sides stand and point at each other and shout at each other and say that THE OTHER SIDE IS WRONG....
Is it not possible that BOTH....sides have done "wrong" and that both sides have things going on that the OTHER side can say is BAD?
I, for one, am a populist pragmatist, socially liberal but fiscally and militarily conservative.
But.... in the precincts of the Linux Fora of the world there is only ONE correct side.
So.....along with whatthefunk....I shall step aside... and await developments.
No relationship to the development that is going on down the road wherein a guy is trying to put about fifty "mini-farms" on a plot of land that is so small that the septic systems are going to be UNDERNEATH.....the doublewide trailers.
Here, btw is a structure that looks amazingly like a double-wide trailer on concrete blocks.
Your "... double-wide trailer on concrete blocks ..." has nothing to do with anything, woodsmoke.
woodsmoke: "Ummm I expected those replies."
I'm not so sure you did, but if you say so, then it is so.
(deleted my next paragraph since whatthefunk caught it re woodsmoke's consistent propensity to overgeneralize)
@woodsmoke ... why the paranoia/persecution tendencies, you consistently post ? ... NO ONE attacked. YOU post this baseless sh*, as is your nature.
"Ok, I happen to agree with whatthefunk."
And you don't agree with my posts or with SR's?
If there is any correlation between Linux users and liberals, I say IF, it might come through a possible correlation between Linux users and independent, critical, even intellectual, thinkers? (Your liberal, intellectual elitist lefties? ) Is this nonsense? Rhetorical, as I have no interest in pursuing it.
whatthefunk: "And this does it for me on this thread. I'm tired of wasting time arguing over complete nonsense with someone who doesn't listen and has no idea what is going on in the world."
Yes, agree, and I've felt the same way quite often lately, EXCEPT ... I feel that someone (if not you, me, and similar others, then who? ) must counter such wild, unfounded statements maligning not only "liberal" thinking but logic itself. You must agree, THAT happens to be one problem the left-liberals have: failure to speak up, to be as vocal as the whack-jobs hailing from the Sarah Palen's of the land. I believe 'someone' must speak up, if only as a voice of reason, and so as not to leave as "last word" posts such as those machine-gunned by woody and such. However, it is the democratic way to allow this freedom to ramp & dump, whether logical or not.
woodsmoke's "response-apologies-clarifications" (masked, as they are) are weak at best, and unsatisfying and unresponsive at worst.
To what extent do you influence your students with this, with such disjointed nonsense--at times not even intelligible?
