Startpage not finding everything?

I have recently noticed that StartPage's queries contain many fewer results than Google, even though Google powers StartPage. For example, compare these:

https://startpage.com/do/search?query=perc+h310+ubuntu
http://www.google.com/search?q=perc+h310+ubuntu

About 36 results for StartPage, while Google itself returns 49,900 results. Even if we assume that StartPage is tossing some garbage results, the difference seems a bit much.

And, more troubling, there are times where StartPage returns absolutely nothing at all. I've noticed this perhaps once or twice a day for the last month.

Well, Google doesn't really want any competition. Is that any surprise?

No. Given what Google did to kill off Scroogle, I'm not surprised they'd repeat similar actions. Perhaps it's time to finally divorce myself from the one thing remaining that I use them for, and take my search business elsewhere.
