Looks very interesting, but from what I can gather from http://community.kde.org/Plasma/Plasma_Media_Center, it's not a workspace in the same sense that Desktop / Netbook / Active are.

I prefer it behaving more like an application than a workspace, as that means when it hits the official repos I'll be far more likely to give it a try

Hmm.... from that PPA page:

To use plasma-mediacenter please add plasma mobile ppa and install plasma-active

Makes me wonder if in its current state of development PMC requires to be running in a plasma-active workspace, or if it's a simple dependency. I think I'll leave it until it's 1) out of beta and 2) can definitely run in a plasma-desktop workspace.

I just tried to compile it, and it runs without any of this PPA's, but look how it runs:
