If your contributing to the K desktop then you are also contributing to Kubuntu as they get the source from KDE, don't they?

You ask an either or question which generally don't have a yes or no answer...

Also, the more fine grained answers give a better overview of where people contribute. Directly to KDE, directly to Kubuntu , both or none.
