Hi all....
The "challenge" Steve issued here (post #13) has been successfully completed. I was able to upgrade to each version one at a time from 10.04.4 to 12.04 (using Ubuntu,...Kubuntu wouldn't work on my copy of VirtualBox for some reason.) Each seemed to work well, except that the newer versions are slower than 10.04 and that almost the entire 8 GB's of space I allotted for the virtual disk has been used up.
Also, I wasn't able to upgrade to the pre-release version of 12.04 in time. And the amazing thing here is.....I did this entirely without touching the terminal!!
If anyone has any questions, I can try to answer them. I didn't play around with any of the versions other than to use the update manager service.
