Since I returned back to Linux in 2009 whenever I have downloaded an iso I have always burnt it to a CD/USB and had tested the distro from that medium. I have read quite a lot of comments from people on here and on Ubuntu Forums talking about the testing of an distro through VMware. I would like to ask what is the difference and which one in your opinion is the better for testing a distro before installing it.

Testing a distro under a virtual host is not the same as testing it on the actually hardware of your machine. Video graphics is one big area of difference. But, aside from that, testing a distro as a guest OS gives you the ability to make changes that are difficult on a LiveCD. And, in my experience, a guest OS is faster than a LiveCD."A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”
