        Sorry, my experience of outdated redhat software has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

        Where I think its probably fine for servers to run it (as long as they get the security patches!). The desktops I had to use with it at uni where horrible. They ran redhat 5.5 and we had to maintain a separate student ran repo just to keep the packages upto date (no one wants to use a 5 year old web browser in a computer science lab!!).

        We even had problems with keeping things upto date ourselves as gcc on redhat 5.5 was too old to compile some of the latest stuff, and was broken enough that we couldn't even compile a working copy of the latest gcc...

        All these problems magically went away when the workstations where switched to ubuntu 10.10 0-o
