Keep doing whatever you like. I agree with Dibl and GG. Also agree with GG on his last post to this.

That's because I've exercised great restraint. WARNING: Anyone offended by "the f word" and/or people who love Obama probably shouldn't click on the link I'm about to provide! I've refrained from using its avatar on this board.

YEAH! ... I would!! and I'd settle with no less then Lewinsky got

And I agree with GG - there has to be a open discussion, I'd say it's the core of free software and the four rights of FS by Stallman. That said, I would also argue that anyone have the right to ask you not to use the avatar, but I don't think that that avatar/text is breaking any forum rules, so feel free to use it.

I knew a guy who wore that shirt semi-regularly, though IIRC he had one with a white background instead of black. I wouldn't be offended by even that, since we a christan faith in common, but different branches (he is evengelical Presbyterian whereas I am Catholic).

Re: Should I change my avatar?

                Hi bsniadajewski

I agree with you ....and also about the shirt, this was a "middle of the road" and large "Christian school" and they had a very large variety of such shirts and also wore them to the "mall" and other places, a lot wore them to college upon graduation and they did NOT do any "proselytizing" but they would say that people would come up to them and ask where they got "the cool shirt" and some ended up going to Christian coffee houses etc.

There is one very dynamic church in the area that is ACTUALLY getting out with the non-believers instead of just talking about it and then retreating into the safe womb of the local group.

That preacher bought TWO ....bars.....as in where they sold BOOZE when they went out of business and turned them into "non-church" churches.

They definitely do not LOOK like churches one of them DISTINCTLY looks "like a bar" he even kept the original signage and added another sign as a "come on".....

They are both basically greatly expanded "coffee houses" with large dance floor, not for dancing.... but for "stand and praise" type stuff, lots of round tables, nice raised dais for the bands and singers etc.

They both get a LOT of traffic because the bands are not "Christiany" they are the latest Christian rap, country, etc.

As I said they get a LOT of traffic, but since they have been in operation for several years, most of it not "surprised" any more. They know that it isn't a "bar".

Anywho, I think it was The Man himself who talked to the lady at the well that nobody else would talk to.

Re: Should I change my avatar?

I really wasn't sure I should post this update, but what the hell. A mod (who shall remain unnamed unless he chooses to out himself), asked me via PM if I'd like him to step in and remind the sender of the original PM that proselytizing on KFN isn't allowed. I told him I wasn't exactly bothered by it, yet at the same time kind of liked the idea of reminding the sender what is and isn't okay around here. So he did, and the sender told him he was leaving. I actually have mixed feelings about that, because if he chose to stick around I think he'd see that we're a very lively, interesting, articulate bunch of people with widely varying views on things--and that there's room for him, too, as long as he doesn't step out of line.

I hope you don't feel that you were the cause of him/her leaving - that was fully their choice.

As I see it, people with unyielding, completely rigid points of view simply can't co-exist with those who's opinions/beliefs differ from theirs. It's to bad. I don't judge them, but I do feel somewhat sorry for them. He/she might have learned some useful things here, not just about Linux/Kubuntu, but other, more worldly issues as well.

Thanks for the reassurance, Snowhog. Looking back, I don't see anything I did that should have offended him in the first place. (Good grief, you guys ought to hear me in real life! Like this morning: "The [f word] Internet connection is [f word] out again! [f word] Earthlink and [f word] Time Warner said switching from [f word] DSL to [f word] cable would solve these [f word] problems!")

Keep in mind that his initial reference to my avatar wasn't even correct, he was referring to my slogan...but somehow was seeing an old one. (I still don't know how that was happening.) Regardless, not being able to distinguish between humor and disrespecting God seems a little...stiff.

                              indeed.

Speaking of my [f word] Internet being out again this morning, I have no idea what happened. After all the trouble I had a couple months ago with my connection and router, I was thrilled things were cranking along nicely every day since then. And then this morning, just, bam!, no Internet connection. Did the usual stuff, turned off the modem and router for a minute, turned them back on...nothing. Called Earthlink, was told to call Time Warner. Called Time Warner, was told there are no outages in my area. They started rattling off what to do, I said I'd already done all that (reboot modem, check cable connection, etc.). So they said they'd send someone out...on THURSDAY. Let's just say I was less than thrilled.

I wrote a bash script to continually check for connectivity and notify me when (I was being optimistic!) it came back on, and about two hours later, voila!, connected again. Yay! (Let's just hope it stays on.)

Some of the larger(est) ISP's, and I think that EarthLink might be one, do some not so above board (shall I say, underhanded) things with their Internet service to their customers. Throttling speeds; actual denial of service (connectivity); "systems maintenance" just to name a few.
