A classical example of how our political system now works...

The House will be voting in a bill which would enable Netflix to integrate social sharing with Facebook.
HR 2471 permits a video tape service provider to obtain a consumer's consent, which is required to disclose personally identifiable information concerning the consumer: through the Internet and in advance for a set period or until such consent is withdrawn.

So, Netflix gives a "campaign contribution" to some congressman to write some special legislation that benefits only them. Since no one reads the bills they vote on any more, it becomes an "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" kind of thing, as other congressmen sponsor bills paid for by other corporations.

NetFlix is a "video tape service provider"?

Interesting back-story on the current "Bork Bill" that the proposed legislation will amend.

Did NetFlix even exist when people were still using VHS tapes?
