You got it Vinny. I also sent it to Starwolf and told him to use it as he sees fit. BTW, I'm using his Gull Lake theme, including one of the four desktop wallpapers.

I lost 6 windows and a bunch of screens, as well as my roof, gutters, and vinyl siding. (A "silver lining" -- I never liked the color of this house, so now State Farm is helping me change it. )

Luckily we had both cars in the garage at the time -- lots of folks around here are still driving dimpled cars from that storm.

Hey dibl, where in Ohio is that? I don't recall so much hail from when I lived in Columbus.

Denver is another story...hail is routine. Matter of fact, Denver has the highest home owners insurance I've ever paid -- because of high probability of hail damaging or destroying the roof.

I'm always amused by scenes in movies about the old west where someone goes into a room and lights a kerosene lamp and the whole room lights up bright as day. If you have ever tried to read by the light of a kerosene lamp you know that it is a pitiful light source. Better than a candle but not not by much.

I'm on the southeast corner of the Dayton metropolitan area, in Centerville. Yes, that storm was very unusual -- first time in my 61 years in Ohio that I got hit by hail this size.

I've never actually used a kerosene lamp, but I've always just sort of assumed that the "whole room lights up bright as day" phenomenon was a bit of Hollywood license. That and the way they--by omission--imply that indoor plumbing either existed, or no one back then pooped/peed.

He he .........in my living room in NC. I have 3 kerosene lamps(that burn the colored oil you get from a pharmacy) 2 3candle wall sconces and about 6 single candle holders.

when the power goes out and we light them all it is acualy more light than the 2 tabel lamps that usualy are on AND it will heat the room .............. from outside it looks like we still have power ha ha

I have a couple of those battery powered camping lanterns that work great. The newer ones use CFL bulbs and give more light with longer battery life. I also have a propane camping stove for cooking and making coffee and I have a fireplace and plenty of firewood. So when we get a power failure I manage OK.

You're in North Carolina? So is my best friend. Hurricane Irene was her first experience with a hurricane in years, since back when she was stationed at Camp Lejeune herself (her daughter and son-in-law are both Marines stationed there). They now have a generator...just in case. It sounds like you've adapted REALLY well to the inevitable.

When I moved back home [to CA] it really never occurred to me that I'd see a Dallas-type power outage again, i.e., one caused by the weather and that drags on for days.

Ha ha! :P Since moving back here in '06 I've been blissfully unaffected by power outages--that were so common in Dallas--until now. And THIS was a biggie!
