anybody participated in a "salon" (not hair or nails! lol )

A few of us at the college are considering trying to recreate the "Salon" of the 1800s.

Has anyone participated in one and could comment on how it worked, what you discussed, whether it worked well or not, etc.?

... a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine taste and increase their knowledge of the participants through conversation. These gatherings often consciously followed Horace's definition of the aims of poetry, "either to please or to educate" ("aut delectare aut prodesse est"). Salons, commonly associated with French literary and philosophical movements of the 17th century and 18th centuries, were carried on until quite recently, in urban settings, among like-minded people.

No, I haven't, but it certainly sounds interesting. I can think of many topics that would make for fascinating conversation in a setting like that.

Whatever you do, you should hop into a saloon for transport to your salon, which of course you must convene within a saloon, and you can discuss the latest exhibits at Salon while listenting to recordings of Saloon.
