Re: liberal progressive elites look here!!!!
DYK!!!
VERY GOOD!!!! Now THAT is the kind of discussion that is productive!
Bravo!
Please place the above in the context of the former flame wars at the main Ubuntu forums about the "Christian Avatar".
Please allow me to do a small recap for those new to the Linux community.
There was, and then was not, and now there is, at the Ubu Forums a sub forum for discussion of CE or Christian Edition of Ubuntu.
Beware any Christian who stepped even slightly outside that sub forum.
Unfortunately, a few did, either asking questions or responding to questions.
And OMG.........."some" people SAW a "Christian Avatar"!!!
I mean, it was as if the world had stopped spinning on it's axis!! the world would cease to function because the horrid IMAGE of that Christian avatar so BLINDED, the Christian hating Linux people that they would probably be forever like Bruce Springsteen's deuce coupe! NATSFS!!
Now....one must also put this into the perspective of the "CE" person who ventured out of his, or her, little confines...
He...or she....HAD to endure the various "evil" avatars......because that is just the way it was.....
What is good for the Linux liberal/progressive/Christian Hating person does not apply to the despicable Christian.
End of short history for those new to Linux.
"Liberality" .......USED to be about "tolerance"....that all forms of thought are equal.....
and those are the words used today....but they were not practiced at Ubu forums....
And still today, in the "society" at large in the U.S. and to a certain extent Europe.... Christian thought is not tolerated but any OTHER type of thought is fawned upon....
Witness, unfortunately gone, the massive thread of over 12,000 posts at the Former Castle Cops about "Islam" that was supposedly started by a Muslim but was really started by one of the normal denizens..
Linuxdom was the "non" believing playground and every body else should not make waves in the tranquil water within which the Linux atheist lived, moved, and had his/her being.
Going back to the Ubu Forum thing.
The powers that be said that the situation of screaming at Christians was not acceptable so a bunch of the Ubu people formed a "evil worshiping" Linux called Satanic Linux.... to which I provide a link but WARN FOLKS THAT THERE ARE IMAGES that will be disturbing to some.

Again, the point being, that it was, and still is for some, perfectly ok to offend Christians, but it was not, and to many still is not for some ok to offend a "non" Christian.
And again, that situation did not extend to Shinto, Hindu, Islam, or the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Soooooo to return to DYK's post....
again BRAVO!!! the post shows that there are many, I think MOST of the Linux community that could just "really care less" about all of this....
In U.S. society at large, and to a certain extent in Europe..
The lefties scream at the righties
The righties scream at the lefties....
The non-religionists scream at the religionists and the religionists scream right back.
While the REST of the people are "just trying to get along".
It used to be that the U.S. was considered to be a "melting pot"... wherein people at least TRIED to get along together....
But that changed in the sixties when there was great advocacy that the U.S. never was a "melting pot" and that we should just forget that "outmoded way of thinking".
The problem is that even though it probably "never was" a melting pot, that way of putting down "outmoded thought(in their perception) ... was the beginning of a long downhill slide to the screamfests of today...
But at least people TRIED to make it one... and when I entered Linux I thought it was supposed to be a place in which one stood on one's merit. But, going back to Xandros that is not the way it was.. but....
As so succinctly stated by DYK..... I think that most people now are "moving beyond" it...
.....and as was so aptly put by vinnywright...people are getting beyond .... lables.
Again...BRAVO ! DYK and Vinny !!!
