    NRC, brains and greed

Arnie Gundersen comments on the NRC's decision to allow a plant which was commissioned in 1974, was only 80% complete when mothballed, cannibalized for two years, and then permitted to be completed and put on line in 2014. It points out the obvious conclusion that the NRC is not an agency representing the citizens of the USA, but one which is a lapdog for the nuclear industry. Approving a plant for which all quality control documentation was destroyed when it was cannibalized, the concrete foundations leached, has a reactor that will be the only one of its kind in operation, and which will be 40 years old when it comes on line is the height of stupidity. IF it lasts as long as current nuclear plants now running, it will be over 100 years old when it is decommissioned. The ONLY way this plant could turn a "profit" is if it is heavily subsidized by the US government, as all nuclear power is, but short term profits drive a lot of senseless or harmful projects. Arnie's analysis is an eye-opener.

I'm afraid that's the entire country now not just that industry. I agree, stupidity driven by greed!
