Couple other interesting google+ text editor tricks -

      Boldface -

*this* word is in boldface = this word is in boldface

      Italics -

_this_ word is in italics = this word is in italics

I would have to agree, having been through some of the state. But I think it faces equal competition with my beautiful Oregon, particularly in the Cascades.

Having spent some time in and around Seattle, I cannot dispute that.

Although, having been there in both mid-winter and mid-summer, I can heartily recommend the month of July as the better time to enjoy (i.e. see) the beauty.

                  Hi guys...

Did any of you get to see underground Seattle when you were there?

                    Hi...

Thank you, I found Kentuckians to be the most friendly during my travels in that part of the country.

We got it for $36.99 a month for the first 12 months then I think it goes up to around $60. That's for internet only - we don't have a hard phone line and our TV provider is Dish.
I pay $52/mo for Internet ONLY for this:

I used to pay $72/mo but a couple years ago they dropped the price to $52.

If that isn't insulting enough, I have a 12,000MB download limit per month. I get cut back to 24Kbps for a month if I go over my limit. I rule!!! Grin
That isn't an ISP service, that is gouging because of lack of competition. 12GB/mo cap can be surpassed by streaming only four HD movies online! Do you have a dialup ISP in your area? You can use a V.92 modem and access the Internet at 48Kbps or higher for around $20, a LOT less than $70, or if you are capped, $90/mo.

Or less! My mother and some friends of mine have used this dial-up ISP and have had, to the best of my knowledge, good experiences with their service, although connection speeds will differ depending upon the usual factors. However, about the only thing dial-up will handle efficiently any more is POP3 mail (without pictures or large attachments) or loading very low graphics intensity (for lack of a better word) websites. Video content and downloads requiring more than 4-6 hours without a manager that supports resumable downloads, forget it.

Google scares me as much as it intrigue me, and most of their stuff is really good web apps apart from wave that really didnt feel up to the task when they released it.

As for the ISP broadband width - heres my ....

As far as I know the state supported a quite huge IT development fund in the late 90s- early 00s to bring "broadband" to whole of Sweden, fiber optics was installed all across the country. One goal I *presume* was to connect all the Universities.

Actually that would be a legitimate role of gov here in the US. "To do whatever the free market can't or won't do." I refuse to go back to dial up. The world wide web is not designed to even work with dial up anymore. I know I'm getting gouged, but it is my only option other than no internet. I had earthlink dial up until three years ago. You know when web sites start putting the "slow connection" buttons on their sites that you are screwed. My corner of the world is still living in the 1900"s anyway. We still have the ceramic/glass insulators on some of our power lines. The land lines are ancient, and cause slower than normal speeds. They are constantly having to track down breaks when our phone service goes out. I could never get more than 36Kbps consistently for more than an hour. Normally it was around 24Kbps. A lot of sites would just time out trying to load.

                                Hi...

I think you mean specifically the United States. I wouldn't include Canada (or possibly Mexico) as a "like minded" nation or government.

I wouldn't call the initiative you spoke of "communism" per se nor do I favor total laissez-faire capitalism (without restrictions of any kind) but I think the real question here is how much does a state do for people before it starts to rob them of any personal initiative and dignity? As an example, back in the 1960's and 70's, when our welfare programs were, I believe, at their highest level, the original goal was to eliminate poverty in the United States. However, it caused many families to become strictly dependent upon the Federal government, for multiple generations, to the point where those receiving assistance didn't need to think in terms of providing for themselves. That doesn't help anyone in the long term and it's certainly not how our Creator made us. That doesn't mean I am in favor of abolishing programs that help those who are disabled or have become unemployed or even hit a rough spot in their lives (to the contrary, actually,) I'm just saying that it shouldn't become a way of life, especially for able bodied men.

Americans are typically leery of government and don't care for what we perceive as intrusions into our lives, even though we are continually seeing this in ever increasing levels. I think those in Europe have a different outlook on the proper role of government.
