    Adrian Hands: Linux contributor

He patched an old bug using a morse code translation device with his leg because of the effects of ALS. Not long after he passed away. I was deeply touched by what I could learn about his story. Heroic and inspirational, indeed.

Very inspirational, indeed. I wish his family peace.

Early in my career, I shared an office with a recently-retired U.S. Army artillery captain, who had been injured in a jeep accident. He was the father of 7 children, and got a nice job as a buyer in a government purchasing office. We had worked together for about a year, and been to each other's house for dinner, when he developed a weakness in his hands. Long story made short, he was diagnosed with ALS. What a sad situation that was. He worked as long as he could -- about 18 months, and then became too impaired to be productive in the office environment of the 1970s. I stayed in touch with him and his family -- he lasted another year and then passed away, having lost his vocal ability and all motor control. What an awful disease!
