Mercy for the people of Japan

The most recent news I've read is that the combined death toll from the earthquake and tsunami is expected to rise over ten thousand souls. As if that weren't bad enough, there looks to be a real possibility of full on nuclear meltdown (Chernobyl style).

I'm personally heartbroken by the situation. Its impact is likely to be felt for generations to come, and not just in Japan. God help those poor souls

I found this article with a list of how people everywhere can help. My own household is working indirectly through the Salvation Army to collect funds for relief efforts.

If you've been personally affected by this human tragedy, and especially if you're doing something to help, please do share your experience here. I think knowing that people care and are willing to do something might be a small relief for everyone.

Thanks for reading, and for caring.

The Japanese are a magnificent people with a STRONG sense of family and culture, as witnessed by the fact that there is little to no looting, rioting or civil disobedience in the face of one of the worst disasters in modern history and people go out of their way to help each other.

As their tragedy unfolds it has brought me to tears many times. It is especially tragic that its corporate and government leaders have been revealed to have repeatedly lied about and covered up the history of those power plants, and of the current disaster.

Yes. It really is a terrible situation. I hope and pray they recover quickly and that the people lost will be remembered.

        Dreadful sense of personal impotence.

And they should be example to all in the face of tragedy how to act and help. They truly seem to show honour.
