    The complete Debian 6 set comes on 8 DVDs.

    Yes, Debian has the habit of putting the *entire* package repository onto the Full CD/DVD Set they offer. You don't have to get the Full Set of course. You can opt to download the DE specific CD/DVD for your given architecture, which is a single CD or DVD.
    Windows no longer obstructs my view.

        Which I find very nice. It's a perfect place for a beginner to start. I do wonder why (apart from not having an internet connection) someone would want the others. It seems to me it's a choice between installing what you want plus everything else, or just installing what you want. Is it that if you install programs individually that some don't work and if you get the meta package then they do?
