I enjoyed those. Somehow I wished it was for another company but I guess a lot of people would disagree with me. I feel that there is an irony there, ... can't quit put my finger on it ... something about which monsters you need to fight, and in which dimension. Fun though.

Hi...

I'm curious as to your opinion on this. Is it connected to the dispute with SCO? I never really followed that whole saga other than I found out about Novell's victory (and SCO filing an appeal) today after seeing your post and researching the dispute online.

Ever since Novel signed a secret agreement with Microsoft, I couldn't help but not feel the same any more. Way too sleazy for my comfort zone. The contents of this agreement just came out a couple of months ago, and it seemed like a pact to keep Open Office compatibility with MS Office incomplete. Whatever is the truth, the whole thing stinks and I'm uncomfortable with it. My personal response has been to just ignore Novell since then. I did try their roll-your-own-distro studio just for fun, but I'd never run their distro on any of my computers. The latest sale of open source related patents and (again) Microsoft's involvement doesn't seem too cool either.

As for the SCO thing, I was originally cheering for Novell.

I'm a big fan of Novelle's DOS. I've got a copy, but it is only for my own historical reasons that I don't run it. There is a free version, I guess you know. Many people consider it the best.

It's a mixed up world.

Thank you for your thoughts. I would have to do more research on the issue before I could come up with something of an educated opinion, although I did find this a little bit ago in connection with the Novell-Microsoft deal.

A bit of info came out in the Comes v. Microsoft case which is only now viewable. Pamela Jones at Groklaw has an opinion piece. She's also got something on the Novell patents. I just know Groklaw is an easy, and well researched, source of that kind of stuff, that's why I went there, but there's lots of stuff on the net. Andy Updegrove's standards blog is another source of that kind of information which is also orders of magnitude more credible than most. Funny I just checked it for the URL and I see he's got a piece on Novell. BTW, Attachmate apparently has an interesting relationship to Microsoft - here's Groklaw again.

I had never seen those before, even though they were made almost FOUR YEARS AGO. Unless I'm mistaken they never made it onto commercial TV channels.
