BTW, A couple days ago I downloaded a doc file and LOo wouldn't open it but KWord did.

I have a quick question about KWord. I used OOo/LOo to write a 20 chapter family genealogy that my wife researched and roughed in. I created a master document with a TOC and an index. I added and edited each chapter through the master document. and when done I began the printing through the master document.

    Kan KWord do that?

I'm on a mission to replace every non-KDE app with a KDE version that is equal or better.

So don't get too dependent on ANY local office suite, except if you are indeed producing paper - in this case you can just pick the suite you like best, because even if it's forked or development is discontinued, you will still be able to use it for a VERY long time (look at all the people out there who are still happily using KDE 3.5, Office 2003 or Windows XP).
I agree. Actually I was shocked when I first started seeing .doc formats in public. What a strange concept, yet people got used to it. I still use plain text (with CRLF) for most things. What I use for pre-print is irrelevant to other people unless they are the ones doing the printing.

        i had never used koffice.
Just because i saw this thread, i decided to use it once.
I found it better than LOo. Better interface.
Thanks folks for starting this thread.

So this may be a case of me not understanding a concept, but it seems when I go past the first page, the text "disappears".

If I delete, it'll reappear as lines are erased, so its obviously there, but not visible.

I am sure there's some simple setup issue that I am not understanding. Maybe someone can help out a newbie ?

I'm not understanding your question, partner. When you fill the first page of a new document with text and go to the second page the characters you type no longer appear?

yeah, I kind of messed that up, since I was posting from work.

Basically, once I get to the end of the page, if I continue typing, the words won't be visible.

If I delete a section earlier in the text, it will appear again so it's there, but somehow it doesn't flow over unto the next page.

I may try reinstalling just in case something bugged out during the upgrade to 11.04. It was working fine beforehand, as far as I know
