Here is another amateur rocket. I'm not sure if the guy that's building it is going to check out the view himself , or if he is looking for a volunteer.

Talking about rockets, last year my son spent his summer working here

        http://www.starchaser.co.uk/

        The British Space effort

PS _you'll note they are looking for volunteer astronauts - any takers?

A test of their primary engine demonstrated about 10 cycle/sec harmonic in the specific impulse, which oscillated between half and full thrust. . If they don't get that smoothed out it will rattle the teeth out of the passenger.

The primary booster is going to sustain a 3g force for 60 seconds. 3g is 96'/s/s, which means that after 60 seconds the rocket will be traveling at 5,760'/s, i.e., a mile per second, or 3, 928 mph. The astronaut will probably have to breathe pure Oxygen and wear a G-suit. Interestingly, the StarChaser rocket has the passenger laying on their back.

But an added benefit will be the savings on funeral expenses as there won't be anything recoverable to bury. :P :P

Internal revolt at wikileaks promises that the new organization will:

He said that the team did not want the responsibility of deciding what was or was not relevant and what would be good for the organisation as a whole to publish.

"This is the wrong question and should never be asked."
                    Network effect

Unlike Wikileaks, Openleaks will not publish or verify material; leaving that role to newspapers, "NGOs, labour unions and other interested entities".
They are going to leave it to labour unions...and OTHER INTERESTED groups....now BOTH of those must, by definition, be unbiased. I am SO glad that unions will decide what to publish and not to publish... it makes me all squishy inside.

I wonder If I could publish stuff about stuff that they don't like...hmmmmm....

The assumption here, is of course, that one side has a direct pipeline to Kafka, Kant and Keirkgaard......with a side pipe to Marx, Mao and ....darn..... Chavez doesn't start with an M.... >

That's the exact same solution that was forced on software security firms and experts by Microsoft. IF they continued to announce holes in MS software to the general public they would be sued. Ergo, when they find holes and malware they report to Microsoft, and the general public gets to hear about it ONLY if it fits Microsoft's bottom line to release such information. What's really galling is that Microsoft can sit on a hole or bug for months (and some cases years) before they announce the hole and the patch on the same day. Then they have the gall to claim zero-day patches.

So, if OpenLeaks gives whistleblower information to, say the NYT, or CBS or MSNBC or Fox, which parts would you think we'd get to read about. WikiLeaks has some information about Bank of America. What would Forbes keep back if it were leaked to them and not the public?

That approach just reeks of potential abuse via "favorites" lists.

                            I don't think I'd volunteer for that!

I actually did all of the volunteering for the Challenger. The didn't laugh but they did smirk a little!

But, to me, really, that thing is safer than a shuttle.

Getting back to WikiLeaks!! Two conflicting views about freedom:

                                1. Michael Moore defends Julian Assange with his own money and offers of help: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michae..._b_796319.html
His article has some interesting comments of the number of lives cost by "privacy".

                                2. The US AirForce censors access to newspapers: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/15/us...er=rss&emc=rss
Shame the Air Force wants to censor readers. Wonderful example of trying to "Shut the stable door after ...."
