desktop market share show them this statistic from EWeek:
    http://www.eweekeurope.co.uk/wp-cont...08/desktop.jpg

    Linux has almost 24%.

That statistic is AT LEAST as good as the others!

That's really nice to read More people is discovering the great quality and safety of GNU/Linux distributions.

My uncle is now learning about how to use a PC because he later wants to provide some technical support as well as the usual electronic reparation services. I already let him play with Windows and Kubuntu. He even formatted a disk partition with GParted and played with OOo a bit. He even opened some internet browsers and didn't get as confused as my sister who only uses Vista... I also told him about the higher reliability Linux in general has when compared to Windows.

So I guess I should be counted as part of that 24%.
      Multibooting: Kubuntu Noble 24.04
      Before: Jammy 22.04, Focal 20.04, Precise 12.04 Xenial 16.04 and Bionic 18.04
      Win XP, 7 & 10 sadly
      Using Linux since June, 2008

I've got my parents using Linux at least on their laptop. 3 of my family systems (wife, daughters and me) have Linux and at 3 systems @ work. So yes, Linux is there.

I only have a couple things holding me back from 100% linux at home:
          1. streaming my .avi collection to the Xbox 360...
          2. my wife's iPod + iTunes account...
          3. my wife's shockwave/flash game account

          ... ok so a few (not a couple )
There are probably ways of making them work, I just havent learned them yet.

I also do like to play pc games like Sid's Civ series... but so rare is my chance to sit and play anymore, I havent missed it. My mom just bought a neeew asus laptop with Win7... several things arent working for her (skype all but refuses to cooperate throwing a network compatibility error and it took half the geek squad to get her HP wiFi printer working) so it is just a matter of time before she'll let me convince her to give linux a shot.

My wife depends on me for help and instructions while using her computer. The choice of OS was mine.

BTW, ask her if she knows how to detect the presence of a Keyboard logger Trojan, the #1 most dangerous Windows malware out there, and remove it? Especially if it is in the MBR (master boot record), which usually isn't replaced when Windows is reinstalled, thus giving the Windows user a false sense of security (Many Windows users believe that a fresh copy of Windows can't be infected). Nearly all of the Windows boxes I've overwritten with Windows in the last 6 months have been infected with keyboard loggers.

wow, that looks cool, compex, but cool. I just replaced Ubuntu Studio 10.04 with Kubuntu on my desktop a few hours ago which is running like a top. I will try to follow the steps there and see if we can watch 'Lie to Me' w/o my laptop booted to xp

                    thank you

That is an accurate statistic for EWeek Europe, but isn't representative of the whole market. That said, it is a very impressive statistic for EWeek Europe. Do you have a link to the context surrounding the source? The image alone isn't sufficient to justify marketshare, it needs context.
