    Kubuntu 10.04 lovin it

I have used Linux off and on for several years but went back to Windows because I never could get my wide panel 1440x900 resolution to work right. Over a month ago I downloaded the current (10.04) version of Kubuntu and tried the live CD. Native 1440x900 worked up front with no issues whatsoever so I installed it on my desktop wiping out Vista. Windows is now a thing of the past for me.

I do primarily photography and never could get the best color or black & white tweaks in Windows but with Kubuntu colors are much more realistic and black & whites clearly show more shades of gray. Gimp and DigiKam are both easy to use..

I then installed it on my Dell laptop with the same satisfaction as with my desktop.

Ubuntu and KDE have in my opinion out done Windows..................

Welcome! I'm glad to see that you're enjoying Kubuntu.
Gimp and DigiKam are both easy to use..
I agree with regard to Digikam but this is the first time I've EVER seen "easy to use" applied to the GIMP! I've always thought it was designed to be powerful not easy!

Like I used to tell my Physics students: "Everything is easy once you know how!"

@colyn: I agree. Once one gets used to the power of the KDE4 desktop and Dolphin going back and using Windows is pure drudgery. And slow.

I'm still finding thing about kubuntu that makes it far superior to windows. The only problem now is I still have to use it at work..

Yeah, I also have Kubuntu 10.04 and a 19" widescreen (1440 x 900) resolution. I will agree with you it is working great. It I agree that Kubuntu is making some major improvements and it's a heck of a lot more fun and faster than Windows. I'd love to see it get the recognition it deserves. Maybe someday!

I've been watching it for some time to see if they could get the resolution right. This is the first version that worked right for me.

I was using Vista. It would eat memory causing me to have to reboot after image editing every time.

Even Windows 7 was a failure in that respect.

I completely understand. I had problems deciding which Linux distro worked best with KDE. It was right in front of me...KUBUNTU of course. Downloaded it right away without even trying the live Cd because i Knew i would love it and i did. Windows i use to play Demigod but other than that I don't think ill ever use it for anything productive. KDE just rocks.

                  ...
Two years ago, as a retirement gift to myself, I bought a Sony VAIO VGN-FW140/E notebook with a 1600X900 HD display. It came with VISTA Home Premium. The video crashed regularly on VISTA. Since scrubbing VISTA and running Kubuntu exclusively the display has never crashed.
