I have used Linux off and on for several years but went back to Windows because I never could get my wide panel 1440x900 resolution to work right. Over a month ago I downloaded the current (10.04) version of Kubuntu and tried the live CD. Native 1440x900 worked up front with no issues whatsoever so I installed it on my desktop wiping out Vista. Windows is now a thing of the past for me.
I do primarily photography and never could get the best color or black & white tweaks in Windows but with Kubuntu colors are much more realistic and black & whites clearly show more shades of gray. Gimp and DigiKam are both easy to use..
I then installed it on my Dell laptop with the same satisfaction as with my desktop.
Ubuntu and KDE have in my opinion out done Windows..................
