    WOW!

I few years ago Stephen Wolfram announced a web page called "Wolfram Alpha". I went to it and was impressed. It didn't do much more than calculate and draw graphs.

Today I happened to see a tutorial (two parts) on it. Has it IMPROVED!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe6Pn7izk08

    I entered oil reserves

and was FLOODED with relevant information, including the following statistics:

Unit conversions for total oil reserves 1.343 trillion US barrels:
    1.601x10^14 L (liters)
    160.1 km^3 (cubic kilometers)
    1.601x10^11 m^3 (cubic meters)

Comparisons for total oil reserves 1.343 trillion US barrels:
    ~~ ( 0.013 ~~ 1/76 ) x volume of Lake Superior (~~ 12200 km^3 )
    ~~ 320 x volume of water in Sydney Harbour ( 1 sydharb )

    Corresponding quantities:
    Radius r of a sphere from V = 4pir^3/3:\n | 2.1 miles\n | 11052 feet\n | 3.4 km (kilometers)

    Edge length a of a cube from V = a^3:
    | 3.4 miles
    | 17816 feet
    | 5.4 km (kilometers)
Imagine ... the total known oil reserves of the entire world is only 1/76th the volume of Lake Superior, or 320X the volume of Sidney Harbor, or it would fill a cube 3.4 miles on a side.

The two tutorials give tons of uses and triggers a flood of imaginative uses for that web site.
